Recent Senior Roles

​

 Rob is an experienced coach, instructor, mentor and senior operator with a huge range of complex operational and  leadership experience.

 

​Previously, as pilot and Squadron Commander, he was responsible for the training of all the UK’s Royal Air Force and Royal Navy Fast Jet Fighter Pilots, destined for the front line, using the innovative Hawk T2 aircraft at RAF Valley. Happy Four Squadron, run the “Oxford or Cambridge” of modern, cognitive fighter pilot training in one of the most physically and mentally demanding flying courses in the world. 

 

Passionate about service and flying jets from a very early age, he joined the RAF in 1994 and became an operational pilot on the Tornado, became a highly qualified Tornado Instructor. In 2005 he became a Tactics and Weapons Instructor at 19 Sqn on the Hawk T1 and subsequently became a Qualified Weapons Instructor (QWI is a similar qualification to the US Top Gun) and Aircrew Instruction Coach (AIC). He became an A2, Above Average, Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) and the Chief Weapons Instructor at RAF Valley.

 

Experienced Instructor & Coach

As a double A2 QFI and CFS trained Aircrew Instructor Coach, Rob was responsible for all staff training and standards from first fast jet flight to beyond visual range, swing role missions. He has recently updated his coaching credentials with the Coaching Experts at CMI.

​

Academic Rigour, Awards and Recognition

​

He is a graduate of the Higher Command and Staff Course, for the top 2% of Operational Defence Leaders across NATO and across Government. He was also a graduate of ACSC at the Joint Services Command and Staff College with an MA from Kings College London and a Level 7 Post Graduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Management and a CMI Level 5 Diploma in Coaching. He was awarded an MBE in 2015 for his services to Military Flying Training in the New Year’s Honours List, and was awarded the Honourable Company of Air Pilots Master’s Medal in 2019 for his innovation work, developing elite high performance and coaching in RAF fast jet training.

He also supported ITV’s 3 part documentary on fighter pilot training, “Fighter Pilot: The Real Top Gun” in 2019 which is available on YouTube.
